Bigbury on Sea

Bigbury on Sea beach in South Devon is ideal for families. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly children. If you want to try something different from the usual bodyboarding or surfing then windsurfing and kite-surfing are popular here, with hire facilities located right on the beach.

Bude

Bude is Cornwall’s most northern town and has been a popular seaside resort from Victorian times. There is a long sandy beach, looking out towards Lundy Island.

Dartmouth

The beautiful town of Dartmouth situated on the mouth of the River Dart is one of South Devon’s most popular and enchanting towns. With its charming historic streets, scenic river location and surrounded by South Devon countryside.

Looe

Looe is situated on both sides of the River Looe. The two towns are joined together by a bridge across the river. East Looe includes the harbour and the main shopping centre. West Looe is quieter but also has shops, restaurants and hotels. It is worth visiting the harbour quay to watch the fishing boats coming in to unload their catches.

Polzeath

Polzeath is a small village on the headland opposite Padstow. It is a haven for surfers and beach lovers. There are lifeguards on the beach during the daytime in the season. This is a sand and shingle beach, situated at the mouth of a river and backed by interesting cliffs. There is a nature reserve and some interesting rock pools on the beach. Dolphins may sometimes be spotted and this is a good area for many types of coastal bird including puffins.

Trebawith Strand

Trebarwith Strand is just over two miles from Tintagel along the north Cornwall heritage coastline landmarked by Gull Rock. The sandy beach becomes completely covered at high tide and is accessed over rocks when approached from the pretty village of Treknow down a picturesque valley. The Strand Cafe provides drinks and snacks throughout the main holiday seasons.

Wembury

Wembury beach is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has enough sand for sunbathing, along with a huge number of rock pools to explore. The waters are clean and have won an award from the Marine Conservation Society and are also fairly shallow, so the kids can enjoy a supervised splash-about. To get a flavour of the local scenery you can take a stroll along the cliff paths, which will take you to Bovisand and Newton Ferrers.

Widemouth

Widemouth Bay is very long open bay popular with families and surfers and at low tide there are hundreds of rock pools to explore.

Situated just 3 miles south of Bude and accessible along the South West coast path, Widemouth Bay offers fantastic conditions to learn surfing or body-boarding, which is why many of the local surf schools are based there. It has also received the Blue Flag Beach Award 2019.
